Picture Resources to accompany ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ (NOT included in this pack:  Animal Face Game + picture cards + tips to help your child understand and use words for parts of the body and for places.

There is an animal face game: a bear’s face and a dog’s face (backed with card and laminated - NB the colour of the backing card may vary), with matching nose, ears and eyes for each animal velcro’d onto a baseboard, linked to the page in the book where the family meet the bear, as pictured.

The picture cards are of a family and a bear, laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and attached to a baseboard with Velcro dots, that are compatible with PECS products (Picture Exchange Communication System).

There are 7 place boards picturing: grass, river, mud, forest, snow, cave and bed, all laminated and backed with card for extra durability. These places all feature in the book as the family first hunt the bear and then run away from the bear.

There is a pack of 14 picture instruction cards, featuring the family and the bear in each place (e.g. the family in the snow, the bear in the river), laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and held together with an elastic band.

The resources are designed to help children understand and use language at the 1 word level for parts of the body, animals, and places (Who’s in the CAVE?, Where’s the NOSE?, Where’s the BEAR now?) and at the 2 word level (put the FAMILY in the CAVE; where’s the DOG’S EYES?).

Finally there is an A4 advice sheet, laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic, with tips for using the resources to boost your child’s speech and language, gained from my 30 years work as a Speech and Language Therapist (now retired).

The picture resources and advice sheet fit into an A4 popper bag, labelled with a brown parcel tag ,for convenience and durability.

This resource extends the language-boosting potential of a well-loved book, with picture games that work well for children with delayed language, for children with autism, and for children learning English as an additional language.
