Boats, Planes & Trains Picture Exchange Pack: Help, I Want, I Can See, Colours

Plastic linking vehicles x 12 + photo symbols on a vehicle baseboard + picture symbols for colours and vehicles + sentence starter baseboards ‘I Want’/‘I Can See’ + 2 sets of 12 pictures of vehicles + tips for use.

The plastic vehicles are brand new. There are 4 each of boats, planes and trains, in 4 colours - blue, red, yellow and green.

The vehicles measure approximately 9cm (length) x 5cm (height) x 5cm (depth). They are easy to grasp and to connect.

The A4 vehicle baseboard features the same 4 colours with symbols for the railway, the sea and the sky. The photo symbols are attached with velcro coins according to colour and to where the vehicles go (i.e. the train on the railway, the boat in the sea, the plane in the sky). 

The picture symbols for colours and vehicles are laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic and attached to an A4 baseboard with Velcro coins. They are designed to help children ask for toys they want and comment on what they can see before they have any words, and to teach them those words together with the sentence starters “I want", “I can see” and the word “help”, which have their own symbols.

There is a separate baseboard for using the sentence starter ‘I want’ with 1 picture or with 2 pictures, and another for using  ‘I can see’ with 1 or 2 pictures. These baseboards include tips for using the sentence strips.

There are 2 sets of 12 pictures of different colour vehicles, measuring approximately 9cm x 9.5cm. These are used to encourage repetition of the key words: BOAT, PLANE, TRAIN, RED, YELLOW, BLUE, GREEN, by playing simple ‘Snap!’ or Pairs games, and then to comment ‘I can see…’

The pack is designed to help children understand and use words for colours and vehicles at the 1 word level (‘Where’s the TRAIN?’, ‘Which one’s BLUE?’, ‘Show me the SEA’) at the 2 word level (‘Where’s the GREEN BOAT?’, ‘Give me the TRAIN and the PLANE’, ‘I WANT the TRAIN’, ‘I CAN SEE the PLANE’) and the 3 word level (‘I WANT the BLUE TRAIN’, ‘I CAN SEE the YELLOW BOAT’ etc.

The tips for use are written onto an A5 double sided laminated page, with ideas that are tried and tested with children who have delayed language and children who have autism.

The picture resources fit into an A4 popper bag and the toys fit into an A4 size zipped bag, both labelled with a parcel tag for easy storage and portability.

This pack uses motivating toys to encourage children to make clear requests for toys, to comment on pictures and to listen to words. It can be used for children with no words and for children who are developing words and communication skills.
