‘The Mitten’ Board Book + Snap cards with question cards + single pictures of 8 animals + location cards of a tree/mitten/table/chair + 32 picture instruction cards + Story Sequencing Baseboard strips with 16 matching pictures + Colourful Semantics baseboard with 2 colour-coded strips and 26 matching colour-coded pictures.

The Board Book is brand new, measures approximately 16cm x 13cm x 2cm and has 30 double pages with beautiful illustrations retelling the Ukrainian Folk Tale of a boy who loses his mitten and the animals who shelter inside it.

There are 2 sets of 8 Snap cards with 8 ‘Who’ question cards for guessing games.

There are 8 animals attached to a baseboard with Velcro, and 4 location cards (A5 size, backed in card) of a mitten, a tree, a table and a chair, with Velcro to indicate IN and UNDER (for the mitten and tree) and ON and UNDER for the table and chair. There are 32 picture instructions showing 4 animals in/under the tree/mitten, and the other 4 animals on/under the table/chair. These resources are designed to support understanding and use of words for animals, position and place, up to the 3 word level e.g. ‘put the MOUSE UNDER the TREE’, ‘put the BEAR IN the MITTEN’ etc.

The Story Sequencing Baseboard is 4 strips of 4 picture, attached with treasury tags so it can be folded. It comes with 16 matching single pictures.

The Colourful Semantics Baseboard is A4 size and has a box for placement of 1 of the story pictures, and boxes underneath for placement of a colour-coded sentence strip. There are 2 strips with written prompt questions on each coloured box: subject(orange ‘Who?) - verb (yellow -‘What doing?’- object (green - ‘What?’) and subject-verb-place (blue -‘Where?’). There are 26 colour-coded pictures to place onto these strips: 11 x subjects, 9 x verbs, 2 x objects and 4 x places.

These resources are designed to support children to sequence the events of a story, and to make 3 word sentences to describe each stage of the story.

All the colours are taken from the most recent and widely-used ‘Colourful Semantics’ theory.

There is also an advice sheet to support using all of these games with children.

All picture resources are laminated in non-reflective Matt plastic, and fit into an A4 bag labelled with a brown parcel tag.
